A Conversion Story (Part IX)

(Coming in late? Start from the beginning!)

“For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it— Therefore, that we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness, wherein we know them; and they are truly manifest from heaven— These should then be attended to with great earnestness” (D.&C. 123:12).

Sisters Johanson and Fairbanks continued preached the Gospel as best they could, keeping hope in the back of their minds that some day, they’d stumble across someone that could tell them where Roland Road was located. At Zone Conference in July, the mission president asked all the missionaries to participate in a mission-wide fast. On August 1, 1991, they would all fast, en masse, that they would be led to those “who are only kept from the truth because they not where to find it.”

Sisters Fairbanks and Johanson began their fast on Thursday, August 1, completing it on Friday, August 2. And when they woke up on Saturday, August 3, and went into the other room to study the scriptures, they noticed on their huge wall map that, inexplicably, Roland Road in Pequannock had been pencilled in.

They didn’t know about the Ouija board, of course.

Tune in next time for Part X!
